There are several machines used in dog food production:
Mixers
- These are used to blend the different ingredients such as grains, meat, and vitamins together to create a uniform mixture. For example, a large industrial – scale paddle mixer can thoroughly combine dry ingredients like kibble components.
Extruders
- Extruders play a crucial role in the production of dry dog food like kibbles. The mixture is forced through a die under high pressure and heat. The shape of the die determines the shape of the kibble. For example, it can form the common bone – shaped or small pellet – shaped kibbles.
Dryers
- After extrusion, the dog food needs to be dried. Tunnel dryers are often used where hot air is circulated around the kibbles to reduce the moisture content to an acceptable level for storage and preservation.
